Donna has a diverse background in healthcare, with 35 years experience in women's health including Labor and Delivery and Fertility nursing. Donna is also a seasoned therapeutic massage, Reiki, and healing touch practitioner, bringing holistic approaches to her practice for over 20 years.
Donna received her bachelors degree (BSN) from Wayne State University and is a graduate of Wellspring Institute where she learned gentle, deep tissue massage. She is a Reiki Master and Healing Touch practitioner. She is also a dōTERRA essential oil representative.
Donna is so excited to be a part of the Chiropractic Cottage team and working with Dr. Kristy to integrate these therapies for wellness! Her passion is to help those on their journey to Optimal Health.
MASSAGE THERAPY
Massage Therapy is a relaxing way to increase circulation and help strengthen the immune system and is also found to be very calming to the nervous system. My approach to massage is a gentle deep tissue techniques that is very soothing. The Wellspring philosophy is that massage does not have to hurt to help. Massage lotion is used with essential oils on a heated massage table and heated blankets for an hour of comfort. The massage technique that Donna does is compared to Esalen Massage, which provides a state of deep relaxation and healing. Donna also incorporates dōTERRA Essential Oils during her massages to add relaxation and healing to the body.
REIKI
Reiki is an ancient Japanese energy therapy that works in a systematic way. The practitioner simply places her hands on the individual or around their body. It is done with good intention for the individual in a relaxed environment on a heated massage table in a private setting. Soothing music and essential oils are often used to promote relaxation. Reiki recipients have said that they feel very relaxed and peaceful after a Reiki session and this feeling lasts several days after the treatment. It has also been said to promote restful sleep.
HEALING TOUCH
Healing Touch is an energy treatment modality that is nurturing energy therapy. There are specific healing touch techniques that are used with gentle touch while working in the human energy field. It is compatible with all health care. Healing Touch is an energy modality that uses the hands and the human energy system for healing. The goal of Healing Touch is to restore harmony and balance in the energy system by removing blocks (blocks may cause pain). There are several techniques that are included in this modality that can be used for healing and relaxation.
INTEGRATIVE THERAPIES FOR INFERTILITY PATIENT
Experiencing infertility can be very stressful in a person's life. Research has indicated that there is a link between stress, anxiety, depression and fertility. For some women chronic stress can effect ovulation by altering signals to the hypothalamus, the center of the brain that regulates some of the hormones that trigger the ovaries to release eggs each month. Some research indicates that stress may affect testosterone levels and sperm production in men. Other research indicates that stress may have an impact on other aspects of fertility beyond ovulation, including problems with fertilization and implantation in the uterus. One study from the University of California San Diego found that the most stressed women undergoing IVF had less success every step of the way (fewer eggs retrieved and fewer eggs successfully implanted) compared to women who were not as tense. Optimal Healing understands this and wish to offer you support in your journey to become pregnant. Complementary therapies (Reiki Healing Touch and Massage Therapy) are means to bring relaxation to the parents to be. We believe that self-care is at the utmost importance during your fertility treatments: promote balance and maintaining hope.
HOT STONE MASSAGE
A hot stone massage is a type of massage therapy. Combining hot stones with a full body massage provides a very healing and effective experience. The hot stones also expand blood vessels, which encourages blood flow throughout the body. The hot stones have a sedative effect that can relieve chronic pain, reduce stress and promote deep relaxation.
AROMA TOUCH TECHNIQUE
The dōTERRA ArōmaTouch Technique is a clinical approach to applying essential oils along energy meridians and visceral contact points of the back and feet to help balance sympathetic and parasympathetic nervous systems of the body. The technique is simple and intuitive and uses dōTERRA CPTG Certified Pure Therapeutic Grade® essential oils. Aromatouch is a wonderful way to relax and heal!
